These prisoners were photographed along the Bataan Death March in April of 1942. They have their hands tied behind their backs. The estimates of the number of deaths that occurred along the march vary quite a bit, but some 5,000 to 10,000 Filipino and 600 to 650 American prisoners of war died before they could reach Camp O’Donnell. Thousands more would die in poor conditions at the camp in the following weeks.

The one-man submarine which landed on Peter Beach, Anzio Beachhead area, Italy, is examined by U.S. soldiers. The tube on the left is the torpedo, the other is the driving compartment, housing one man. The torpedo tube is shackled to the driving tube and can be release, allowing the pilot to return safely. Ordinarily the torpedo is underneath the drive tube. The submarine pilot was a 17 year old Nazi who was captured. April 21, 1944. -Source
